Symptoms and implications

Exposure of genetically predisposed individuals to the potent inhalational anaesthetics (isoflurane, sevoflurane, desflurane, halothane, methoxyflurane, enflurane) triggers a rapidly progressive and potentially fatal increase in metabolism of the skeletal muscles. The neuromuscular relaxant suxamethonium is possibly also a triggering agent.
